Gravitational waves may oscillate, just like neutrinos
Novel lithium electrodes coated with indium could be the basis for more powerful, longer-lasting, rechargeable batteries.

With the lift of a plane, with the control of a helicopter and the buoyancy of a blimp,  you have the  PLIMP Airship. A patented plane-blimp hybrid, the PLIMP Airship features dynamic wings―enabling it to hover, dip, ascend, bank, or spin.

I really like this concept as it overcomes some of the hurdles of a pure airship, helicopter and drone. It really is a true Hybrid.  I see this mainly competing with drones in the surveillance area.

    Egan Drone Division

Egan Airships and its drone division were co-founded by identical twin brothers James and Joel Egan. As kids, they flew model gliders and threw weighted balloons. It was this early interest in flight mechanics that turned into an idea. And it was this idea that turned into an innovation developed by a world-renowned aerospace engineer. Altogether, the evolution has led to  PLIMP Aircraft

    Intellectual Property

Intellectual property, which includes two 14-year design patents on our recognizably distinct airship design—a noticeable improvement over traditional airship designs. Based on extensive research and investigation, it was developed to drive maneuverability and speed, more like fixed-wing aircraft. They are also aggressively pursuing international utility patents.

The following specifications for the PLIMP Airship are estimations, pending verification during flight testing. During the commercialization phase, we will further refine the design, and select the data link and flight control system.

    Length  28ft
    Diameter  7ft
    Weight  55lbm
Endurance  1 hour at cruise speed with 5lbm payload
    Cruise Speed  30mph
    Maximum Speed  40mph
    Takeoff and Landing Capability  Vertical
Flight Options  Forward Flight, Reverse Flight, Hover Capability
Electric Motors with Shrouded Propellers N/A
    PowerLithium-Ion Rechargable Batteries
    Visual OperationLOS
    Visibility Range3  miles
    Power-Off Descent Speed 9mph
    Payload Interface Universal
    Range  Up to 20 Miles

    REGULATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS

The PLIMP is in the process of FAA approval and should be registered by the FAA under the Small Aircraft Regulations (Part 107). Exemptions for FAA approval to operate over people and at night are also in process.
